Washing Care

Silk is a valuable, natural fibre formed from one continuous silk protein fibre. Silk is very labour-intensive to produce, however, its unique qualities make the effort worthwhile. It’s deceptively delicate for the world’s strongest natural fibre.

At staplesonline.com we feel that one of our most important roles is to help educate people about this phenomenal fibre. We make sure that everyone interested in our products knows about its superior breathing, thermal-regulating and moisture wicking capabilities.

Here are a few simple instructions that will allow your staplesonline.com products continue to be their best …

  • Silk is a protein like our skin so NO bleach, brighteners or harsh detergents (including all laundry detergents). These products will eat the silk.
  • Soak stains out in cool water as soon as possible to avoid them setting.
  • Launder in cool water with mild soap (non-alkaline) or use a small amount of soap you would use to wash your own hands or hair.

One customer wrote that she gives her knit silks a conditioning rinse and that "…they love it." Just try adding a bit of hair conditioner to the rinse water when you wash the silk.

  • Wash silk items with other delicates…or by hand.
  • Do not use hot or very cold water as this will shock and therefore weaken the fibre.

A lingerie bag is highly recommended as it protects the garments from catching on the fins of the machine that may stress the pure silk stitching and result in breakage or runs. Just be sure the items have "room to move " in the bag.

  • HEAT IS BAD! Hang to dry is best.

Please hang the items out of the direct sun which damages the silk (remember what it does to our skin).

A light squeeze (but do not wring the item) will speed up the drying process. A shake or two during drying will prevent stiffness.

If you find your knit silk wrinkles just press it inside out with a warm steam iron.

Please keep substances that contain alcohol away from your silk.

Let your perfume and hair spray dry before you dress.

Occasionally you may notice a thread begin to unravel. If this happens give it a quick stich.

As the silk is knit it can run. Using a dab of nailpolish will prevent it from becoming bigger

I hope these tips help everyone enjoy the luxury of pure 100% knit silk!

Hand Dyed Care

All of our seasonal colours are hand dyed with love. Every colour is original. A double rinse of vinegar and salt are used to set the colour, however, with the red tone colours, there will be some seeping. Do not worry, you can wash and wash and the colour will not fade. We recommend upon your first wash to let your silk garment soak in a sink full of water and a half a cup of vinegar to further set the colour. Do not wash dark or bright red colours with any other garment.
